Bonner County Fair

The Bonner Co. Amateur Radio Club assisted with security this year at the Bonner County Fair, August 25 - 30.  Pictured above, left to right is:  Club Vice President Royce-KC7PHQ, Former Club President Phil-K7PGC, and County Commissioner Louis Rich.   Phil set-up a base station in order to maintain contact with the 5 amateur radio operators patrolling the grounds.  Kraig-KE7SKJ pulled dual duty by also manning the EMS station.

Amateur Radio Classes

The Bonner County Amateur Radio Club is putting together an amateur radio class.  The first meeting is Thursday, September 10th at 7:00pm at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church at 1900 Pine St. in Sandpoint.  Wayne-K7ZOX has agreed to teach the class.  Wayne is also the Fire Marshall for Spirit Lake.

There are three classes (levels) of license, Technician, General and Extra.  A license or certificate of successful completion of element (CSCE) in a lower class is required before an upgrade to the next higher class.  Cost of the examination is usually $15.00; the FCC license is free and is good for 10 years.  Morse Code is no longer required.

Click HERE for more information on how to become an amateur radio operator (a HAM).  PowerPoint drills are also available for each of the classes.

EMCOMM

We may not have hurricanes in Bonner Co. but we do have other weather related problems, fires, volcanic ash, earthquakes, and potential hazmat related disasters.  Amateur radio is a valuable asset to every community.  If you are interested, Emergency Communication (EMCOMM) courses are available on-line through ARRL, check registration calandar and course descriptions
